This year's third EduCafé will focus on traditional methods and new trends in sustainability education.

We would like to invite you to the next edition of an informal EduCafé discussion evening, this time with the title Education for Sustainability. The event will take place on Wednesday 25 September at 18:30 at KULT XL in BrusselsMiloslav Kolenatý, a senior lecturer and researcher from the Faculty of Environment at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University, Petra Koppová, an educator and methodologist specialising in environmental education from Lipka, and Elke Vanwildemeersch, a policy advisor on Sustainability Education at the Duurzaam educatiepunt (Sustainability Education Hub), have accepted the invitation to participate in the debate. The debate will be moderated by Tomáš Polák, PR expert from the European Parliament.

The September edition of EduCafé will focus on the topic of education for sustainability from both the Czech and Flemish perspective. It will focus on questions such as: How do we teach about climate and sustainability, and how do we evaluate the effectiveness and transformative power of climate education? What approaches have been traditional, and what can be seen as innovative in these initiatives? How is sustainability education embedded at the policy level? The theoretical framework and the role of universities in this field will be complemented by a practical example that will also show the possibilities of outdoor education for children of different age groups. The Flemish perspective will focus more on the role of public policies in implementing education for sustainability. It will also present what opportunities there are for inspiration and sharing of good practice between different education systems and at policy level.

Miloslav Kolenatý is a senior lecturer and researcher from the Faculty of Environment at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University. As a part of his PhD studies at Masaryk University, he focuses on the theory of climate education and its application in practical education programmes in both formal and non-formal education. His expertise also includes evaluating the effectiveness and transformative effects of climate education initiatives across Czechia.

Petra Koppová is an educator and methodologist specialising in environmental education, with a particular interest in outdoor learning.  At Lipka, she coordinates innovative educational approaches and teaches these methods in Erasmus+ international teacher training courses. She also contributes to projects focused on student entrepreneurship and climate education. Outside of her professional work, Petra organises summer camps to preserve local historical heritage and leads children's leisure activities.

Elke Vanwildemeersch is a policy advisor on Sustainability Education at the Duurzaam educatiepunt (Sustainability Education Hub). In this expertise centre from the Department of Environment and Spatial Planning of the Flemish government, she oversees strategic processes, including the development and implementation of (inter)national/regional policies, governance frameworks and research projects focused on Sustainability Education.

Tomáš Polák has been actively involved in the media and public relations sphere since his university days. Since 2020, he has worked as a PR Expert for the Pirate MEPs. He manages communication for the entire delegation and coordinates with the Czech media department and the Greens/EFA political group. Tomáš is also a member of the professional organisation PR Club.

EduCafé is a discussion evening for both education professionals and the general public. The debate will be held in English. Come and listen to a discussion on a topical issue and get your questions answered in an informal setting. Register today.
