We invite you to a discussion evening on disinformation and education

CZELO

The debate „Educa(u)tion: Combatting Disinformation through Education“ will take place on 14 November at StamEuropa in Brussels.

The Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research in Brussels (CZELO) and the Representation of the South Moravian Region to the EU in Brussels (KJMK) are co-organising a second education discussion, the so-called EduCafé, which targets not only education experts but also all those interested in this topic from the general public. The debate will be in English.

This EduCafé will focus on how we can combat disinformation, which represents a serious risk for our societies, through education. The panellists will discuss this topic both in the context of higher education and teachers´ preparation (including media literacy), and on the level of learning activities for students and youth. In the second part of the event, the participants will have the opportunity to try to escape disinformation on their own by taking part in the Fakescape game.

The speakers will be Josef Šlerka from Charles University in Prague, Kamil Kopecký from Palacký University in Olomouc and Lucie Čejková from Masaryk University in Brno.

Josef Šlerka is the head of New Media Studies at the Faculty of Arts at Charles University and a university lecturer, an expert in social media, network data analysis and semiotics. His studies focus on symbolic analysis, machine analysis of natural language, media and media landscape (disinformation websites, conspiracy theories and their perception).

Kamil Kopecký is an associate professor at the Department of Czech Language at the Faculty of Education at Palacký University Olomouc and the head of the Centre for the Prevention of Risky Virtual Communication (PRVOK).
