I consider international education one of the fundamental tools we need to gain global competence, which is crucial for developing a successful, educated and tolerant society. Therefore, the leadership of organisations such as the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research is of great importance. I sincerely look forward to cooperating with Michal Uhl. I believe we will be able to fulfil our common vision in the field of international education and thereby contribute to the work needed to reach the goals set in Strategy 2030+,” says Petr Gazdík, commenting on the appointment of the new director.

Michal Uhl has been working for the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research since 2016. He has been leading the organisation as its legal representative ever since Dana Petrova left her post in September of last year. Together with the former Director of DZS Dana Petrova, he contributed to building DZS’s position as an essential player in the field of international education, strengthened cooperation with national and international stakeholders and actively contributed to the expert debate on the internationalisation of education.

“I am very glad I can build on the excellent work of Dana Petrova and further develop the organisation as an essential player in the field of international education in the Czech Republic and continue to build the good name of Czech Republic in education and research abroad. My goal is to continue making international education accessible so that truly everyone has a chance to participate in international activities, thus contributing to the development of high-quality education in the Czech Republic,” said Michal Uhl following his appointment.

Michal Uhl will concentrate on removing entry barriers of the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes, regional cooperation, focusing on the activation of organisations and institutions in school and vocational education, and supporting schools in professional development and internationalisation. His conception, which he presented during the selection process, stresses the importance of connecting the Czech Republic with Europe via the activities of the Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research in Brussels, as well as the importance of the Study in the Czech Republic initiative, which excels in recruiting excellent international students for Czech higher education institutions which should be a priority of Czech Republic’s public diplomacy in the future. In the months to follow, DZS will work on getting ready for the Czech Presidency in the Council of the EU, including organising several events for the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and organising numerous other activities.
