The Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-2024 was amended by the European Commission at the end of March 2023. Additional funding is intended to foster research and innovation that support civil security for society, topics of renewable energy and European innovation ecosystems. After increasing the budget for the period 2023-2024, the financial allocation brings an overall total of more than 13.5 billion EUR.

The financial allocation to Cluster 3 – civil security for society was increased by 50 million EUR. At the same time, 6 new topics were also added. For the following 2 years, the European Commission expects at least 12 more Cluster 3 projects to be funded. The chosen projects, for instance, are meant to address issues like increasing cyber security, combatting hate speech both online and offline or enhancing crisis preparedness.

Another 14 million EUR, for 2023, was added to support renewable energy. Successful projects will support the implementation of a strategic research and innovation agenda on green hydrogen. Finally, in line with the new European Innovation Agenda, call on Regional Innovation Valleys will be launched in May. The call is intended to connect European regions and strengthen innovations in the European innovation ecosystems across Europe.
