European Parliament voted through the EU’s research fund for coal and steel

CZELO

European Parliament voted through an updated legal framework for the EU’s research fund for coal and steel which aims to support polluting industries to achieve Europe´s objective to become the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050. The new research plan should finance discovery and adoption of new technologies in steel production, develop clean energy in former coal mines, support projects on turning coal waste into battery anodes and on developing and testing carbon dioxide capture, exploit geothermal energy and contribute to research in the production of green hydrogen.

Research fund for coal and steel will complement other instruments in the Horizon Europe, where would be launched the first joint calls for projects within the clean steel partnership in next months, it also complements the European Commission´s a scheme, the Commission’s just transition fund, aiming to help regions to move towards cleaner energy sources.
