Digitální Evropa will bolster Europe's technological sovereignty and its digital transformation

The European Commission invests €2 billion in Digital Europe. The first calls for proposals will be published during November.

On 10 November 2021, the European Commission adopted three work programmes for the Digital Europe programme, with a total budget of almost €2 billion, to contribute to the implementation of Europe's Digital Decade, to strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty and to support digital transformation.

Three work programmes are the following:

1. The main work programme with a budget of €1.38 billion, it will focus on the creation of data and cloud spaces, on use of trusted artificial intelligence (AI) to tackle key societal challenges (climate change, sustainable healthcare, etc.), on the digitisation of public administrations supporting cross-border interoperability (e.g. European Digital Identity). The main work programme will also focus on education, with part of the budget allocated to Masters Degree programmes in key advanced digital technologies to boost digital skills in Europe.

2. The work programme on cybersecurity will dispose of a budget of 269 million euros to build data infrastructures, develop knowledge and skills and share best practices in this field, etc., across the European economy.

3. The work programme focusing on the set-up and operation of the network of European Digital Innovation Hubs with a budget of €329 million, until the end of 2023. These hubs should help private and public organisations across Europe with digital transformation.

The first calls for proposals will be published during November 2021, with further calls in 2022.
